Home builders should clear the decks for porches.(Friday Home Guide)(On The Homefront)

Washington Times, The, August, 1996 by Hepner, Ruth
There already was a deck on the house next door when my neighbor bought it. Wally didn’t hate the deck, but the baking sun in the heat of summer was too much. He improvised a roof for the deck by building a framework and covering it with rolls of slender bamboo sticks tied with cord. Ah, shade.
The problem was, the bamboo didn’t hold up well. It already was suffering from several harsh winters when my cat came crashing through it

Exploring Rajasthan and its mystical beauty will no longer be tiring for travellers of luxury trains. The Royal Spa Salon, the latest attraction on board the Royal Rajasthan On Wheels and Palace on Wheels, is geared to bring the finest spa services for travellers from September this year.
Both these luxury trains have added one bogie each, which will have two massage centres, two steam baths, a beauty salon and a mini gym. With an aim to make wellness treatments more accessible, the 70-feet-long and 9-feet-broad bogie will offer everything from beauty treatments like facials, manicures and pedicures, to special treatments like steam showers and body massages. The mini gym will be equipped with treadmills, or cycles and dumbbells.
Ahead of the peak tourist season, preparations are on in Ajmer, where the bogies are being designed. “The spa coaches will have exquisite furniture and relaxing interiors. Every single thing has been given proper consideration, right from spa-inspired lighting, flooring, seating, accessories and spa bath furniture like spa therapy beds,” says BK Sharma, general manager, Royal Rajasthan on Wheels

Cavity nesting birds will not be attracted
by admin on Jul.29, 2010, under Uncategorized
Cavity nesting birds will not be attracted to your garden without the appropriate environment. Each bird has a particular way they want to live and specific needs.
You’ll have a better chance of getting the feathered tenant of your choice if you do your research. For example, if you want to host Eastern Bluebirds, you’ll need to place the birdhouse at approximately 5 feet high and provide an entrance of 1 ? inch in diameter. On the other hand, The Northern Flicker is drawn by heights of up to 30 feet and needs a southeast facing home. Wrens like their nests to be located in shrubs, while Swallows desire close proximity to bodies of water.

Many computer users today have two drives. The number of “Two-Drive” owners is increasing mostly because of the inexpensive prices of the drives themselves. If you do some smart shopping, you’ll end up with a very nice rebate. From time to time I do some searching on the net for some great bargains, and present those deals to DigitalDingus website viewers, so this is another option for you. Just imagine how much space you could save if you only had two 80GB 2.5″ hard drives.
2.5″ Form Factor Is Pretty Fast
For some people, having the fastest drive is required. PC Gaming enthusiasts are loading their games on 10,000RPM drives along with $500 video cards and so forth without a second thought.

Misuse of U.S. flag requires reaction
The opinion article Monday about the use or misuse of the U.S. flag was very timely. I have seen several locations in St. Joe where they show NO respect for the proper display of our flag.
Advertising flags are being flown from the same staff or halyard by businesses all over town. But the straw that prompted this letter is of the highest insult: Now a Catholic church is flying the Mexican flag on the same halyard. This is against the U.S. flag code, as is the use of the flag for advertisement.
More articles on the proper use and display of our flag would be greatly appreciated. I was born in this town, fought in Vietnam as a U.S. Marine, lived and worked in Texas for a while, and have now returned home for my retirement, to see this: a blatant disrespect for our flag!
When will it stop? Never, unless the people of the town are educated and then care enough to stand up. I’m willing to stand up, and I’m sure there are “A few good men” (and women) who will stand shoulder to shoulder with me to stop the misuse and disrespect of the symbol of this great country we still have the right to live in.

OK. We still picture ourselves in coonskin cap, moving silently through the forest, rifle at the ready to bring home dinner slung over one shoulder. We are Americans, built of hearty stock and self reliant. We can take care of ourselves and are certainly ready to oppose anyone who gets in our way.
And boy are we anti big government

Yet, how many organisations truly
by admin on Jul.28, 2010, under Uncategorized
Yet, how many organisations truly involve their people in making vital decisions about how the business can do better?
So, as a starter for 10, try asking them.
Next time you face a problem or challenge in your business, gather a group of people – as random a group as possible and give them these three tools and let them get on with it.
Ensure that they are
different
,
empowered
and
encouraged
to contribute. From the evidence from Surowiecki’s book, your people are almost definitely going to produce a better result than you alone ever could. Then you have to go with that flow.
Remember they must generate a solution that works, that doesn’t generate new problems and is cost-effective. If you give them their head, it is almost a given that they will do just that.
The challenge for you is not whether they will do well; more that you are willing to let up your own control and give them the opportunity to test their solution.
And that’s a big ask for you – not them.
The book is a worthy read too!

BULK OF FPL MONEY FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY GOES TO START-UP COSTS

BULK OF FPL MONEY FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY GOES TO START-UP COSTS
0 Comments | Palm Beach Post, Jun 21, 2008 | by CHRISTINE STAPLETON
Most of the money that Florida Power & Light Co. collected from customers to develop alternative energy sources has not been used for that purpose, a state audit has found.
The bulk of the $9.5 million raised in FPL’s Sunshine Energy Program between 2004 and 2007 was paid to a contractor in Texas for salaries, office expenses, business travel, research, marketing and a public relations consultant to administer the program, according to the audit findings. Auditors estimated that the contractor, Green Mountain, has spent about $2.2 million — 25.9 percent — to purchase and develop renewable energy.
“The costs for a start-up program are always more than for an existing program, and they tend to decrease over time,” according to an e-mail response from FPL. By 2015, the company estimates that half the Sunshine Energy Program money will be used to purchase and develop renewable energy.
The state had sealed the results of the audit at FPL’s request last month, but FPL released the report this week with only a handful of sentences blacked out.
For years, FPL has marketed the program as a way for customers to help develop solar projects in Florida. FPL’s Web site tells customers that by enrolling in the program “you are helping to make the construction of new solar projects a reality … right here in Florida.”
The program pledges to develop 150 kilowatts of solar energy in Florida for every 10,000 subscribers and buy 1,000 kilowatt hours of renewable energy credits for every subscriber, every month.
The Public Service Commission’s probe of the program began in September with requests to the company for documents and explanations

As a home

As a home school mom to 2 middle school aged children, I knew I had found a new must read for them. One that not only would keep them interested but sneak in some facts and history lessons that they would have no clue they were getting! I’d recommend the book to anyone and everyone, from those that don’t really typically enjoy fiction to those who love it, from those who are avid history buffs to those that would normally fall asleep within the first 2 minutes of a history lecture. It somehow brings us all together to enjoy the story!
The author has an amazing way of bringing the characters to life and showing the trials and tribulations of the times without making you feel like you’re back in school listening to a boring history lesson. The fiction part seems to keep one interested, while the accurate telling of historical events makes it even more enjoyable and intriguing.
?Life of the Eagle? is about a man who has a “gift”. His gift allows him to seemingly live forever and experience the world as no average man has been able to.
